Electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG)

This is a test that checks for problems with the electrical activity of your heart. An EKG shows the heart's electrical activity as line tracings on paper.

Echocardiography (Echo)

A test of the action of the heart using ultrasound waves to produce a visual display, used for the diagnosis or monitoring of heart disease.

Cardiac Stress Test (or Cardiac Diagnostic Test)

A test that measures a heart's ability to respond to external stress in a controlled clinical environment. The stress response is induced by exercise or by drug stimulation.

Holter Monitoring

This is a battery-operated portable device that measures and tape-record your heart’s activity continuously for 3-14 day or longer depending on the type of monitoring used.

Pulmonary Function Testing

A group of tests that measure how well the lungs take in and release air and how efficiently they transfer oxygen into the blood. The tests can be simple or include pre- and post-bronchodilator assessments to evaluate the effect of a medication on lung function.
