Swing Bed Program

At Newman Memorial Hospital, we understand that going home after an acute care stay in a hospital isn’t always easy. Some patients find themselves in that middle ground of no longer needing acute care, but not feeling quite strong or secure enough to return home.

Luckily, there is a middle ground option in our Swing Bed Program. If you have been hospitalized as an “acute care in-patient” for a minimum of three consecutive midnights within a 30-day period, Medicare and most insurance companies will likely cover a Swing Bed stay.

Nursing Care & Rehabilitation

Through a combination of rehabilitative services, attentive nursing care and medical supervision, patients gain the strength and confidence they need to return home to care for themselves. Patients often return to Newman Memorial Hospital following orthopedic or general surgical procedures when they need more time to recover.

This allows patients to be close to home and/or loved ones during their rehabilitative process. If you or a family member find yourselves in need of assistance while on your way to recovery, our Swing Bed Program is here for you.

Aging brings many changes, some welcome, some problematic. Depression and anxiety are changes that don't need to be "endured." Address them in a supportive environment.

Newman Memorial Hospital’s Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient group therapy program designed to meet the unique needs of individuals typically 65 and older, experiencing depression or anxiety related to life changes that are often associated with aging.

Feeling down every once in a while is a normal part of life, but if these feelings last a few weeks or months, you may be dealing with something more serious.

If you or someone you know has experienced any of the following, this program might be right for you.

  • Anxiety
  • Changes in appetite
  • Depression
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
  • Feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness
  • Lost a spouse or close family member
  • Loss of energy
  • Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities
  • Recently experienced a traumatic event

After assessing an individual's needs, participants meet up to three times per week in a supportive, encouraging group setting.

The program staff includes a board-certified psychiatrist, licensed therapists, a registered nurse, and other professionals dedicated to the emotional well-being of the seniors in our community.

Anyone can make a referral to the program. This includes self, family members, physicians, or other healthcare professionals.
