During preregistration, registration, or discharge, our Patient Financial Counselor will discuss the expected patient contribution. As total charges may not be immediately known, the counselor will provide an estimated amount due. In the event an estimate cannot be provided, a deposit may be required, which will be credited to the account, and a bill for the total charges will be sent to the patient.
We request that hospital charges be settled at or before discharge, through insurance benefits, cash, personal check, or debit card. MasterCard, Visa, and Discover credit cards are also accepted. With adequate financial arrangements made at admission, you will be granted a courtesy discharge and need not visit Patient Business Services before leaving the hospital.

Financial assistance is available to patients who are uninsured and underinsured. Partial or full financial assistance may be granted based on a patient’s ability to pay the billed charges.
Patients must fully comply with the application process, including submitting the required documents (last year's tax returns or three most recent Pay Stubs), as well as completing the application process for all available sources of assistance, including Medicaid and/or Medicare.
How to Apply
The application process involves filling out the financial assistance form and submitting the form along with the supporting documents to NMH for processing. You may also apply in person by visiting the Business Office at the address listed below. Financial assistance applications should be sent to the following office:
