Newman Celebrates National Hospital Week & National Nurse’s Week
May 6 through May 12, 2018
On Sunday, May 6, we kicked off National Hospital Week and encourage everyone to pause and celebrate the 5.5 million women and men who make America’s hospitals and health systems such special places. This year National Hospital Week coincides with National Nurses Week, so we also honor the special role that nurses play.
While cutting-edge facilities and technology play a role in healing, everyone from the nurses and physicians to the environmental services workers to the physical and respiratory therapists – and everyone else who wears a hospital name badge – these people are the lifeblood of our hospitals.
Health care is a team sport, of course, and nurses are among the many dedicated professionals working at hospitals and health systems to deliver quality care to patients and families. This week is a reminder and an opportunity to celebrate and thank the many people who make our hospitals and health systems such special places to work and such wonderful beacons of hope and healing.
In September of 2016, Newman Memorial Hospital completed a Community Health Needs Assessment through the OSU Office of Rural Health, which included a survey to be completed about services and experiences at NMH. The results are compared to hospitals across the state of Oklahoma and the United States.
According to the survey, Newman scored above the national average with a 90% patient satisfaction rate. The number one reason given was our staff. Nurses are the ones who begin patient assessments. They are the ones who listen to concerns with calming compassion and begin the process of gathering the information needed to treat each patient. We believe our nurses provide the highest level of quality care and deserve special recognition for their efforts in delivering compassionate care while embodying the principles of ethical practice.
So whether you work in the Emergency Department, ready to tackle anything that comes through the door or you are a nurse on the inpatient floor, helping patients heal and educating family members on how to help care for their loved ones once they are ready to leave or you work with parents and children, making sure they have access to healthy nutrition and immunizations….NMH thanks you and recognizes the decision you make every time you walk in the door to serve others with kindness, compassion and skill. Our appreciation is heartfelt. We couldn’t do it without you!
And our nurses couldn’t provide care without the rest of the hospital staff. Nobody practices healthcare in a vacuum. It takes a whole team of people to make sure that the hospital runs appropriately and is there when you need us. We at Newman are so grateful for all of the staff that come to work every day vested in making this the best place to give healthcare and the best place to get healthcare. Happy National Nurses Week & Happy National Hospital Week!
